I am opening Mountain Woman to submissions for monthly guest blogger posts. The theme will be The Place Where I Live, and I invite short essays and fiction (around 300 words), poems of no more than 50 lines, and song lyrics ---from residents of western North Carolina. If you have photos you'd like to attach, so much the better, as well as audio file if you are submitting a song lyric. This invitation is open to students (K-12) and everyone else. Each participant whose piece is chosen will receive a $20 gift certificate to City Lights Bookstore in Sylva, NC. Don't worry if you don't live nearby, you can order from them online.
What I hope to see is attention to the natural and cultural landscape and sensitivity to your place in it. Mary Ricketson's "Lost in the Roar of Big Santeetlah" is a fine example of such attention to a natural setting, as are the poems by John York in my other blog, Here, Where I Am.
Please provide a brief biographical description and contact information.
